More than 20% of Pakistan's population is undernourished

45% of Pakistani children under 5 years of age are stunted

The problem

WhAT WE DO

Despite agriculture and food production being the major backbone and contributor to Pakistan’s employment, 20% of the country is undernourished and 45% of children age 5 or younger experience the horrors of stunted growth. Stunted growth refers to the detrimental effects on a child’s growth, such as mental and physical development and chronic health issues. These problems can all arise due to poor access to nutrition and food resources for children. The real-life tragedy of stunting growth lingers well beyond early childhood and continues to place kids at a severe disadvantage. Survivors of malnutrition in early childhood suffer functional consequences as adults, including diminished intellectual performance, decreased productivity, and increased risk of delivery complications. The horrors of stunted growth follow underprivileged children for the rest of their lives creating socio-economic disadvantages to a large proportion of families.

Food and nutrition insecurity in the country are primarily attributable to limited economic access for a balanced and nutritious diet. As food prices skyrocket in Pakistan, the common person is alienated and unable to provide themselves and their families proper sustenance. Studies prove that a balanced diet and food security leads to higher productivity, strengthened immune system, increased motor function, and better development. Food insecurity adds another obstacle to those already economically disadvantaged resulting in a lack of progress towards more sustainable solutions.

At Rabia Nisar Foundation we attempt to decrease the difficulties of everyday working-class people such as rising food costs, inflation, and lack of employment by providing food care packages to vulnerable, disadvantaged families. This package will include a month supply of food for 5-6 people. In this food care package we attempt to cover all the basic necessities and provide a standard kitchen pantry for each family. Basic food items such as rice, lentils, chickpeas, oil, masala, salt, and flour will be provided to cover all the important amenities for a family. With food costs rapidly rising, inflation, and job insecurity, we aim to provide families with a sense of security with this care package. The adverse effects of food insecurity and health defects stemming from malnutrition are devastating to these communities. With your help, we strive towards sincerely combatting food deprivation and malnutrition that families suffer from.

We at Rabia Nisar Foundation plan to treat the problem of stunted growth at its root. Research indicates that there are three classes of underlying factors within a household which contribute to child malnutrition. Insufficient access to food, poor water and sanitation services, and inadequate maternal and child care practices all impact a child’s possibility to develop. We plan to establish educational camps and training centers for expecting mothers and women to gain valuable insight to combat and prevent stunting growth. These centers will also provide and distribute food rations with a balanced nutritional diet to these women on a monthly basis from the time of pregnancy until after birth. Rabia Nisar Foundation will actively seek to build a relationship of trust and effort with those we work with in order to work towards building a better environment in Pakistan focused on individual human development.
